The Best Kid Ever: A Layout Process

2013 is almost over and I have only scrapped 16 layouts of pictures I have taken this year. I had big dreams of stuffing my album to capacity but it looks like I’ll be playing a bit of catch-up instead. I usually get blocked because I lack good pictures to scrap or the products I have aren’t inspiring me to scrap any of my current photos. I’m also terrible at thinking up or remembering creative themes for my layouts. I have a couple of big ideas in my journal but they are SO BIG that I’m afraid to start them because I don’t want to mess them up!

I am going to be taking a little break from Citrus Twist but I have the October “Celebrate” Main kit here, still to use, so I pulled out an older photograph that I am madly in love with and used it for my first layout. It’s a picture of my daughter when she was 4-years old and in junior kindergarten playing in her play fort in early spring after school.

Here’s what I came up with:

The Best Kid Ever: Using the Citrus Twist October Kit, Celebrate

It’s pretty simple. The title is a little bit out of my element as I don’t normally incorporate pre-printed cards. The “kid” I added using kraft letter stickers (Jillibean Soup) and I created the sewn “ever” by printing out a template that I purchased for my Silhouette Cameo:

Some template letters I cut with my Cameo. I have the whole alphabet for next to no money (I think it was 2 files) and the beautiful thing about it is that you can resize them to whatever you like, unlike the templates you might purchase.

I laid them where I wanted them, used a pin to poke holes through the centre of each guide hole, and then back-stitched using Sew Easy floss.

Here are a few other details:

I don’t know if I’ll try and kill this kit or not. I’m thinking I may just break all of my kits up and add them to my regular stash. We’ll see.

I am going to do a December Daily this year but seeing as I am in retail management it is probably going to look a little like this: “Here I am at work”; “Here are the shoes I wore to work”; “Here is a picture of my drive to work”; “This is my daughter sleeping by the time I got home for work”…. you get the idea. I’m actually hoping that the project will motivate me to do things other than work, for the sake of the pictures! I’ll be using the Stocking Stuffer kit from Scraptastic, which I very excitedly received the other day. If you are interested in seeing some photos of it, let me know, although I know there are plenty readily available all over the place as well. Also, if you are doing a December Daily, I would love to hear about it. If you are using the Scraptastic Kit, even better!

Thanks for looking and thank you for being such an amazing, supportive community!
