My first go at Steampunk: A Layout Share

I am a huge fan of Graphic 45 papers and of the Steampunk style. When I first started back into scrapbooking, I picked up the Tim Holtz gears and messed around with them a bit but I couldn’t settle on anything I liked, so I put them away until the other day when I finally mustered up my courage and decided to go for it!

I used an instagram that I took at my daughter’s annual school Halloween dance and paired it with the Steampunk Spells collection. Here it is:

I used Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Vintage photo over a 12×12 Heidi Swapp stencil to create the background and I also used it to edge all of the papers. I decided against distressing the paper edges any further because I wanted to try a cleaner look. I then applied some modeling paste over a My Favorite Things stencil to create some dimension. A happy surprise occurred when the modeling paste sucked up some of the ink in the spots where they overlapped. I might try this deliberately some time. Here’s a peak:

I fussy cut the flowers out of patterned paper and layered them with die cuts, stickers and the gears. I found it was pretty hard to know when to stop so when I reached the point where I added something and regretted it, I quit. As I usually do, I hid the journaling in between the layers. Here is the finished product. Boy I hope Santa brings me a camera and another Ott light for Christmas. I’m really disappointed in the photo quality. But I’m sure you get the idea.
