My Scraproom — October 2013

When my daughter was a toddler I would try and get my scrapbooking done while she napped but I had to make sure everything was cleaned up as soon as she woke, otherwise she would want to get in on the fun. I got tired of the hassle of bringing it out and packing it up and bringing it out and packing it up… so I gave up, for years.

Last year, my husband suggested that we get a second computer, not realizing that the idea was going to snowball in my head like this:

  1.  I’m not putting two computers in the same room
  2. Wait, we have a spare room, we could put it in there
  3. I don’t want to use the computer in the dingy spare room, we could decorate.
  4. Well if we’re going to decorate, I should find some way to store my scrapbooking stuff
  5. Wait, scraproom!
  6. IKEA!

Before he knew what hit him he was moving, hanging, cleaning, building, and painting things (2 different shades of purple. I know, right?!) And this room has been my pet project and my sanctuary ever since.

This is the view of my room from the door.

Funny story about this drafting table: My girlfriend and I found this clearance sale at a store that was changing it's business model. I found this desk advertised at $567 less 50% and fell in love. The drafting porting pops up on an angle so I propped it up and couldn't figure out how to get it down. While I'm doing this, this woman comes around and starts eyeing up MY desk so I threw my body on it, wrapped my arms around it and said "It's sold! It's sold!" and then she said "oh! I work here, I'm just trying to help you get it down!". Turns out, it rang up at $209. You bet your butt, it was sold!

Some of my storage. I saw someone store their ribbon on a bust form and fell in love with the idea, so I lifted it. I'd give credit if I knew who it was.

A display of some of the recent things my daughter and I have made. That is the beautiful thing about this story.. now she is no longer a toddler and shares the craft with me!

Some more examples of my storage. The picture on the right shows how I use hanging jewellery organizers to store some embellishments, in this case, brads. Eventually, I will get the closet cleaned out and put some shelves in there too.

It’s definitely a work in progress but that is part of the fun. Thank you for looking! If you need me, you know where to find me! But for now, I’ll leave you with my favourite part:

The view.
